About Crop Steering
Crop Steering waters each zone of a grow room from what its probes read, inside Home Assistant. It refuses to water when something is wrong, and it shows you every watering.
What it is
It is open source under the MIT licence. The code, the documents and every release are public on GitHub. There is no subscription and no licence key.
Who maintains it
Crop Steering is maintained on GitHub by JakeTheRabbit. Contributions are welcome; see the contribution guide.
- Public on GitHub since April 2025.
- Each release has a published audit, attached to its GitHub release with the approval that let it be promoted.
- After promotion, each release is installed on a live two-room installation and its installed files are checked against the tag.
- The changelog lists 27 releases in the 31 days from 3.0.0 (2026-09-27) to 3.18.1 (2026-10-28); releases 2.13.0 to 2.25.1 are in its archive, and earlier releases are in its git history.

How this site is built
This site is built from the published release. Documents are rendered from the release's own files, version numbers come from the release tag, and every statement the site makes about the software is traced to a file in that release.
The demo is the released dashboard running on synthetic data.
This build: release v3.18.1, commit 392b97e, released 2026-10-28.
Independent project
Crop Steering is an independent project. It is not an official Home Assistant project, and it does not compare itself with or rate other products.
